DR. JO ANN DOUGLAS is nationally Board Certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine by the American Osteopathic Association and is recognized by her peers as a foremost expert in the field of Regenerative Joint Therapies (Prolotherapy and Platelet Rich Plasma). She is one of the first physicians in the world to be trained in Regenerative Injection Therapy as part of the Post-Doctoral Residency Training Program for her Board Certification; Dr. Douglas now trains other physicians in these techniques. At Colorado Osteopathic and Sports Medicine, Dr. Douglas specializes in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system using Regenerative Joint Therapies. She treats both the spine and extremities.
Dr. Douglas graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) in 1998, completing her rotating internship at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA and her neuromusculoskeletal residency at UNECOM in 2001. Prior to osteopathic medical school, Dr. Douglas attained her Master's Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts where she worked for several years as the head athletic trainer and exercise physiologist for the school's Division I women's athletic teams.
As a result of her training and experience, Dr. Douglas has achieved high success rates in evaluating the connection between various parts of the body. Her extensive knowledge of musculoskeletal functioning and its interconnected nature allows Dr. Douglas to use Regenerative Injection Therapy and Platelet Rich Plasma Injections to treat back pain, shoulder pain, rotator cuff tears, chronic ankle sprains, tennis elbow, migraine headaches, scoliosis, degenerative disc disease, arthritis pain, frozen shoulder syndrome, TMJ, herniated discs, tendonitis, and many other conditions. Dr. Douglas is also one of the few physicians who incorporate nutrition and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy into her practice, as nutrition, diet and hormones are important factors in the healing process and the success rate of regenerative joint treatments. As a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Academy of Osteopathy, American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine, Dr. Douglas frequently gives lectures to other doctors and health care providers. One of her most recent lectures addressed "Wound Healing and Injury Repair" at the Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine Convention held in Keystone, CO. Her vast experience and training has also allowed her to teach other physicians in the field of regenerative joint therapies, hormone balance and nutrition.
Originally from the New England area, Dr. Douglas is an avid sports enthusiast. A former ski instructor, she also enjoys softball, ice hockey, tennis, hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing. Scott graduated from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts. His passion for prolotherapy began when he was treated with prolotherapy for a shoulder injury he sustained playing baseball when he was 14 years old. He had shoulder problems ever since the original injury including pain and multiple dislocations. Scott became a believer and an advocate for prolotherapy and has worked with Dr. Douglas for the past 3 years. He has extensive knowledge of prolotherapy, hormone replacement therapy, custom orthotics, platelet rich plasma treatments, nutrition and other treatments that Dr. Douglas provides. He can often answer general questions about the procedures, recovery time, and procedure costs as well as pre and post treatment questions. He enjoys ice hockey, tennis and skiing. His love for skiing brought him to Colorado from his home state of Massachusetts. You may also realize that Scott and Dr. Douglas share the same last name. They also share the same parents!
